Overview
Alex Purvis is a partner in Bradley’s Jackson office whose practice centers on insurance coverage disputes for commercial policyholders, alongside product liability litigation. He began his career handling large-scale coverage and subrogation matters and, since joining Bradley in 2005, has worked on complex first-party and third-party coverage disputes. His coverage practice includes matters involving construction disputes, and he assists clients from the earliest stages of a claim through negotiation, litigation and appeal.
Alex works with clients to define their objectives early and assess a dispute in light of litigation costs and broader business goals. He looks for opportunities to resolve coverage matters informally where that serves those goals, while drawing on trial and risk-management experience when litigation is necessary. His courtroom work has taken him to state and federal courts across the country, frequently outside Mississippi, where he works with local counsel as needed.
Product liability accounts for a significant part of Alex’s practice. As part of a Bradley team serving as regional counsel for Cooper Tire & Rubber Company, he manages injury and wrongful death litigation across the country. He obtained a complete defense verdict after a three-week jury trial in Minneapolis. His interest in product liability dates to law school, when he placed third in the National Products Liability Competition as a member of the Moot Court Board. He continues to focus on understanding the products at issue and working with manufacturers to manage risks related to their industries.
Alex is a Fellow of the American College of Coverage Counsel and has been recognized for his insurance coverage work by Mid-South Super Lawyers. He speaks and writes on coverage issues, particularly the duty to defend, and has taught seminars for the Mississippi Associated Builders and Contractors and the Mississippi Association of County Board Attorneys. A member of the American Bar Association’s Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee, he authored a chapter in the ABA’s 2010 Reference Handbook on the Comprehensive General Liability Policy.
