Overview

Alina focuses on appellate litigation and legal issues that arise throughout the life of a civil case. For nearly 25 years, she has represented defendants in state and federal courts in Florida and other jurisdictions. She handles all aspects of appeals and works with trial teams to develop legal strategies and preserve issues for appellate review.

Her trial-court work extends from pretrial motions through post-verdict proceedings. Before trial, Alina briefs and argues dispositive motions, motions to exclude expert testimony and motions in limine. During trial, she addresses complex evidentiary questions, motions for directed verdicts, and proposed jury instructions and verdict forms. After a verdict, she drafts and argues post-trial motions and manages the transition to the appellate court.

Alina’s substantive concentrations include product liability, catastrophic personal injury, general tort and complex commercial litigation. She also has significant experience with cross-border matters involving injuries or damages in foreign countries, including Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico and Venezuela. Before entering private practice, she spent two years clerking for former Justice R. Fred Lewis at the Florida Supreme Court, where she worked on significant issues in civil and criminal cases.
