Overview

Andrew Blum focuses on complex business litigation, including disputes over automotive material supply agreements, business fraud and tort claims, oil and gas rights, and land use. His commercial litigation work includes representing material purchasers in negotiations over whether suppliers could pass along increased costs. When negotiations did not resolve disputes, he has represented Tier-2 and Tier-3 automotive clients in litigation against material suppliers, including proceedings before the Michigan Supreme Court.

Andrew has also handled “No Ship” disputes arising when suppliers refused to deliver material because of pricing disagreements. In those matters, he has developed strategies and provided litigation support aimed at resolving the dispute quickly while limiting disruption to clients’ operations. He has served as litigation counsel to financial institutions in disputes involving Articles III and IV of the Uniform Commercial Code. In oil and gas litigation, Andrew devised the principal legal strategy used to defeat conversion claims against a national producer concerning portions of its Michigan production, preventing multimillion-dollar losses for the client. He has also been involved in constitutional litigation in which he obtained a nationwide stay followed by a nationwide preliminary injunction for his client.

Eminent domain is another substantial part of Andrew’s practice. He has represented both landowners and condemning authorities in matters involving natural gas pipelines, road improvements, railroad crossings, electrical lines, storm water treatment plants, consolidated drains, sidewalk easements, bike trails, parks, ice rinks and downtown development authorities. Related work includes representing a rail services provider in the closure of private crossings along a multi-county stretch of Michigan track and a natural gas utility on transmission and distribution line projects.

Andrew joined Bodman in May 2024. Previously, he was a principal at a large Michigan-based business law firm and served as resident director of its Grand Rapids office.
