Overview

Julie advises employers on labor and employment matters throughout the employment relationship, from recruitment and hiring to workplace policies, disputes and separation. As managing partner of Amundsen Davis’s St. Charles office and co-chair of its Labor & Employment Service Group, she begins by identifying the outcome a client needs, then develops advice around that objective and the client’s business circumstances.

Her work includes counseling employers of different sizes on employment policies and procedures, as well as representing them when disputes lead to litigation or arbitration. Julie handles discrimination and retaliation claims, non-competition and non-solicitation enforcement, wage and hour litigation, and employment and labor arbitrations. She represents public and private sector employers in federal and state courts and before administrative bodies, including the Illinois Human Rights Commission, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the National Labor Relations Board and the Department of Labor.

Julie also chairs the firm’s Government Entities Service Group. For municipal and other public sector employers, her labor and employment work includes negotiations, grievances, defense of unfair labor practice charges and arbitration. Alongside that practice, she assists not-for-profit organizations with employment matters and issues affecting 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) organizations. Her work for those organizations includes training on board policies, procedures and development, as well as counseling and defense.

Before joining Amundsen Davis, Julie practiced at a Midwest labor and employment boutique. Earlier, as assistant director of affirmative action and legal compliance in Northern Illinois University’s Human Resources Department, she conducted internal investigations, reviewed policies and procedures for legal compliance, and developed training programs intended to prevent employment litigation and liability. She is also asked to speak on labor and employment topics by clients and educational providers, and her articles are distributed by educational providers and associations across the Midwest. In 2012, Chicago Lawyer named her among its 40 Attorneys Under 40 in Illinois to Watch.
