Overview
Marshall Hevron focuses his property litigation practice on expropriation and eminent domain matters for major utility and energy companies. He advises clients throughout the expropriation process, including appraisal and negotiation. These matters often move more quickly than other litigation and have a defined purpose, such as securing the property rights needed to bring reliable electricity to an area. Years of work in this field have given Marshall experience with a wide range of issues that arise as an expropriation proceeds.
Marshall frequently leads continuing legal education seminars on eminent domain law. Preparing to explain a case to lawyers who do not specialize in the subject also gives him an opportunity to reconsider how best to resolve a case or a related property law question.
His broader real estate litigation practice includes property rights disputes between neighboring landowners. Such cases can involve both complex legal questions and deeply personal disagreements. Marshall draws on his knowledge of the Louisiana Civil Code to address those questions, and his real estate work has included significant appellate litigation. Some of his cases now serve as precedent in Louisiana.
Marshall also handles land use and planning matters before the City of New Orleans. He monitors changes in local policy in the years following Hurricane Katrina so that he can keep clients informed as those policies evolve.
