Overview

Paul Andre is a first-chair trial lawyer whose practice centers on patent litigation involving complex technologies. He represents patent owners enforcing their rights and companies defending infringement claims, and has led more than 200 patent trials and litigations in federal courts across the United States. His matters span life sciences, computer science and electrical engineering. Paul also handles trade secret disputes and advises technology-driven clients on IP strategy, trade secret protection and risk mitigation.

Paul’s patent trial work includes representing a computer network security company in an Eastern District of Virginia case that produced a $2.75 billion judgment, described in the source biography as the largest patent judgment in U.S. history. In a separate trial in that district, he represented a computer network security company that secured a $152 million jury verdict. He also represented a cybersecurity company in a series of jury trials in Delaware and the Northern District of California that resulted in a monetization campaign exceeding $500 million.

Other plaintiff-side results include a verdict of willful infringement, $17 million in past damages and a running royalty for a business software client in the Eastern District of Texas; a verdict of willful infringement and $31 million in past damages for a networking client in Delaware; and two Nebraska jury verdicts for a telecommunications company with more than $60 million in past damages. In Delaware, Paul secured an infringement verdict and $30 million in past damages for a networking company in a case concerning online gaming patents. His life sciences experience includes representing a biotechnology company in a Delaware jury trial involving stem cell technology that resulted in a finding of willful infringement, as well as representing a client in a Delaware patent trial involving monoclonal antibodies.

Paul’s defense work includes a jury verdict in a Northern District of California patent trial concerning eight patents related to semiconductor manufacturing equipment. In trade secret litigation, he obtained a defense verdict after a California bench trial involving predictive analytics software. He also obtained a plaintiff verdict in a Colorado jury trial concerning trade secrets and breach of contract involving filter regulator lubricator devices. Chambers USA ranks Paul as a leading patent litigator, and The National Law Journal has named him a Litigation Trailblazer.
